Glutamine-rich 1, also known as QRICH1, is a protein that in humans is encoded by the QRICH1 gene. This protein is characterized by a high content of glutamine residues, which are amino acids represented by the letter "Q" in protein sequences, hence the "Q-rich" designation.its glutamine-rich nature provides some clues about its potential roles. Proteins with glutamine-rich regions are often involved in protein-protein interactions and can form aggregates, which play roles in various cellular processes but can also be associated with certain diseases, such as neurodegenerative disorders.
Bioinformatic analysis suggests that QRICH1 contains a DUF3712 domain, a protein domain of unknown function found in several eukaryotic proteins. The presence of this domain suggests that QRICH1 may participate in widespread biological processes or pathways. In terms of disease associations, studies have suggested a potential link between QRICH1 and certain types of cancer. A 2020 study found that QRICH1 was upregulated in ovarian cancer tissues and that its silencing inhibited ovarian cancer cell proliferation and induced apoptosis. However, these initial findings need further validation.
