CD81 Activators

CD81 Activators pertains to a class of chemicals or compounds that modulate the activity of CD81, a transmembrane protein belonging to the tetraspanin family. CD81 plays a substantial role in various cellular processes including cell-cell interactions and cellular trafficking. Particularly, it's known to be a crucial part of tetraspanin-enriched microdomains (TERMs), which serve as platforms for receptor clustering and signaling. Furthermore, CD81 facilitates the trafficking and compartmentalization of the CD19 receptor on the surface of activated B cells and acts as a scaffold for signaling molecules, aiding in the initiation of signaling cascades . The modulation of CD81 can influence immune cell interactions and activation. For instance, Anti-CD81 has been shown to activate LFA-1 on T cells and promote T cell-B cell adhesion, affecting subsequent immune responses such as T cell activation, IL-2 production, and proliferation. Specifically, a study noted that the antibody 5A6 was uniquely potent in mediating these effects compared to other antibodies targeting CD81 or other tetraspanins expressed on T cells. The engagement of CD81 led to the rapid induction of high-avidity LFA-1, which is instrumental in cell adhesion and immune interactions .
