The chemical compound known as MMP-13 Inhibitor is a pyrimidine dicarboxamide that has been developed to specifically inhibit the activity of matrix metalloproteinase-13 (MMP-13), also called collagenase-3. It has been found to be highly effective at inhibiting MMP-13, with an IC50 value of 8 nM. Unlike other MMP inhibitors, MMP-13 Inhibitor targets unique pockets within the MMP-13 protein structure rather than the catalytic zinc, making it highly specific for MMP-13. Furthermore, MMP-13 Inhibitor is able to block osterix-dependent calcification of matrices in limb bud cells during endochondral ossification.
