Espin Antibody (31) is a mouse monoclonal IgG2a antibody that detects Espin in mouse, rat, and human samples through western blotting (WB) and immunoprecipitation (IP) applications. Espin, also known as autosomal recessive deafness type 36 protein (DFNB36), is an 854 amino acid cytoplasmic protein characterized by nine ANK repeats and one WH2 domain, which plays a crucial role in binding actin monomers and facilitating the assembly of actin bundles. This function is vital for maintaining the organization and dynamics of actin filament-rich structures that are essential for sensory transduction in various sensory cells, particularly in the inner ear. Proper functioning of Espin is critical, as defects in this protein lead to non-syndromic sensorineural deafness autosomal recessive type 36 (DFNB36), a condition that results from damage to the neural receptors of the inner ear or the associated nerve pathways to the brain. In humans, Espin is expressed in two isoforms due to alternative splicing, while in rodents, four major isoforms ranging from approximately 110 to 25 kDa have been identified, along with potential additional splice variants. Additionally, Espin has been shown to interact with proteins such as IRSp53 and Profilin-2, highlighting Espin′s importance in cellular signaling and structural integrity within sensory cells.
