TMEM59 has been implicated in Golgi-to-endosome transport, influencing the sorting and delivery of proteins to their appropriate cellular destinations.Research has also highlighted the involvement of TMEM59 in neurodegenerative diseases, particularly in the context of Alzheimer's disease. TMEM59 may affect the processing and trafficking of amyloid precursor protein (APP), a key protein in the pathogenesis of Alzheimer's disease. Alterations in APP processing can lead to the accumulation of amyloid-beta, a hallmark of Alzheimer's pathology.Moreover, TMEM59's role in membrane trafficking and cell signaling pathways suggests its broader relevance in various physiological processes and potentially in other disease mechanisms.
