Triadimenol is a fungicide that functions by inhibiting the biosynthesis of ergosterol in fungal cells. It acts as a demethylation inhibitor, specifically targeting the 14α-demethylase enzyme. By doing so, it disrupts the integrity of the fungal cell membrane, leading to the inhibition of mycelial growth and spore germination. This mechanism of action ultimately results in the suppression of fungal diseases in various crops. Triadimenol′s mechanism of action involves binding to the heme group of the 14α-demethylase enzyme, thereby preventing the conversion of lanosterol to ergosterol. This disruption in ergosterol production compromises the structural integrity and function of the fungal cell membrane, leading to the inhibition of fungal growth and reproduction.
