(+)-Terpinen-4-ol is a chiral starting material for many hydroxylation and epoxidation reactions, and is a highly purified monoterpene. (+)-Terpinen-4-ol is an aromatic monoterpene alcohol that occurs naturally in essential oils derived from lavender, tea tree, and eucalyptus. It is characterized by its delightful scent. While the precise mechanism of action of (+)-terpinen-4-ol remains to be completely elucidated, it is believed to exert its effects by perturbing the bacterial cell membrane, thereby impeding the proliferation of microorganisms.
