QUICK LINKS

Safranal is a chemical that is isolated from Saffron. This chemical is responsible for the distinct aroma of saffron. It has also been shown to have GABAA R agonist activity in vitro which is an interesting area of research. Safranal, an organic compound present in saffron essential oil, has a long history of culinary, medicinal, and perfumery use. Classified as an aldehyde, it consists of carbon, hydrogen, and oxygen atoms, appearing as a yellow liquid. Safranal act as an anti-inflammatory agent by inhibiting the release of pro-inflammatory cytokines and reducing the production of reactive oxygen species. Secondly, it functions as an antioxidant, effectively scavenging free radicals and limiting the generation of reactive oxygen species.
