QUICK LINKS

Pyrazinamide is an antibacterial agent used to form polymeric copper complexes. It is also useful for studying liver toxicity prevention. The active moiety of pyrazinamide, pyrazinoic acid (POA), interferes with membrane energetics and transport function in Mycobacterium tuberculosis. This bacterium produces the enzyme pyrazinamidase, which activates Pyrazinamide. The compound inhibits the synthesis of fatty acids, cell walls, proteins, DNA, and RNA. It has also been reported to exhibit anti-inflammatory, anti-tumor, and anti-viral activities.

Please confirm the solubility of this product in water 50mg/ml. I am asking this question because I have Pyrazinamide from BOC Science which is not soluble in water even at 25mg/ml. It was dissolved in DMSO only.

Asked by: ashutoshcdri
Thank you for your question. Pyrazinamide is soluble in methanol (13.8 mg/ml at 25° C), ethanol (5.7 mg/ml at 25° C), chloroform (7.4 mg/ml at 25° C), and DMSO. It is only slightly soluble in water.
