Linoleic Acid ethyl ester is a compound that functions as a substrate in lipid metabolism studies. It is used to investigate the enzymatic activity of lipases and esterases in various experimental models. Linoleic Acid Ethyl Ester is involved in the synthesis of triglycerides and phospholipids, contributing to the understanding of lipid biosynthesis pathways. Its mechanism of action involves interacting with specific enzymes and cellular components to modulate lipid metabolism and storage. By serving as a precursor in lipid synthesis, it enables to study the regulation of lipid homeostasis and the impact of various factors on cellular lipid composition. In experimental applications, Linoleic Acid ethyl ester plays a role in elucidating the molecular mechanisms underlying lipid-related disorders. Its involvement in lipid metabolism pathways provides insights into the cellular processes that govern lipid accumulation and utilization.

I am interested in the product Linoleic Acid ethyl ester (CAS 544-35-4). I am a PhD student, and I am going to start doing experiments with alpha-ALA in HepG2 cell culturing. I would like to know if the product is suitable for this line of cell. Thanks.

Asked by: Raquel Firnkes
Thank you for your question. This product, Linoleic Acid ethyl ester: sc-205376, has not been specifically tested for cell culture use and is not cell culture grade, however, most products can still be used in cell culture applications by following basic cell culture protocols, e.g. using cell culture grade/sterilized solvents, aseptic technique, and sterility filtering in a sterile hood. We do not have any references using this chemical specifically in the HepG2 cell line, but would recommend consulting the primary literature to see if other researchers have used the chemical in this application.
