QUICK LINKS

Lanosterol is also a key component of the plasma membrane of eukaryotic cells, and is involved in the regulation of cellular permeability and membrane fluidity. Lanosterol interacts with the transcription factor NF-κB, which plays a part in managing various cell functions, including those involved in inflammation and cell death. It also affects enzymes linked to the cholesterol production pathway and may act to inhibit the enzyme HMG-CoA reductase, a key player in cholesterol synthesis.
