Isostearic acid is a saturated fatty acid found in a variety of animal and plant species. It is a component of many cell membranes and is used in the synthesis of methyl-branched poly(hydroxyalkanoate)s, biosurfactants and silver nanoparticles. Additionally, it can modulate the activity of certain enzymes, including lipoxygenase, cyclooxygenase, and cytochrome P450, as well as inhibit the activity of certain transcription factors, such as NF-κB and AP-1. Moreover, Isostearic acid inhibits the growth of cancer cells. It has also been found to have anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties.
