Flutianil, a cyano-methylene thiazolidine, is a novel fungicide with an antifungal spectrum that targets powdery mildew species on various crops, such as Podosphaera xanthii, Sphaerotheca fuliginea, Erysiphe necator, and several Blumeria graminis forms. NIt does not exhibit significant antifungal activity against other tested plant pathogens. Flutianil demonstrates high residual, translaminar activities, and rainfastness, making it particularly effective against P. xanthii. It effectively inhibits haustorium formation and further fungal development, indicating a unique mode of action. This mode of action involves preventing nutrient absorption by haustoria, for fungal growth, without affecting the initial stages of fungal contact with the plant surface.
