DL-Mevalonolactone is a useful substrate for biological research purposes. DL-Mevalonolactone, the δ-lactone variant of mevalonic acid, serves as a precursor in the mevalonate pathway. This compound is known to cause depolarization and swelling, reduce NADPH content and aconitase (ACO) activity, and promote the generation of malondialdehyde (MDA) in calcium-loaded rat brain mitochondria. Furthermore, DL-Mevalonolactone has the ability to counteract the decline in glucose uptake caused by simvastatin.
