cis-3-Hexenal is a naturally occurring, volatile organic compound belonging to the class of aldehydes. It is a key intermediate in the biosynthesis of many compounds, including hydroxycinnamic acids, phenolic compounds, and other volatile compounds. In addition, it has numerous applications in the laboratory, including the synthesis of fragrances, insecticides, and pharmaceuticals. Its potential use as a biopesticide has been studied because of its toxicity to certain species of insects. Moreover, it has been researched as a potential inhibitor of acetylcholinesterase, which regulates neurotransmitter release. Cis-3-hexenal has also been investigated for its ability to inhibit the growth of certain bacteria like E. coli and Salmonella.
