QUICK LINKS

cis-2-Decenoic acid is an unsaturated short chain fatty acid that induces a dispersion response in biofilms formed by gram-negative and gram-positive bacteria, as well as by the yeast C. albicans. At room temperature, cis-2-Decenoic acid exists as a colorless, odorless, and tasteless liquid. It readily dissolves in water and ethanol but is insoluble in diethyl ether. With a pKa of 4.6, it exhibits relatively strong acidity. The chemical reactivity of cis-2-Decenoic acid encompasses oxidation, esterification, and polymerization processes. Through oxidation, it can be converted into decanoic acid, serving as a precursor for various compounds. Esterification with alcohols leads to the formation of esters, which find utility in the production of detergents and similar items. Furthermore, cis-2-Decenoic acid can undergo polymerization to yield polyesters, offering applications within the plastics industry.
