QUICK LINKS

Cholesterol 3-sulfate sodium salt is a white crystalline compound soluble in water, ethanol, and methanol used as a biological detergent, specifically in solubilizing lipids and membrane proteins. This negatively charged detergent has emerged as a beneficial replacement to existing detergent solutions due to its efficacy. It plays a pivotal role in membrane protein research, enabling the extraction of membrane proteins from a variety of organisms, such as bacteria and eukaryotic cells, without altering their structural integrity and functionality. Cholesterol 3-sulfate sodium salt has also been used to isolate high-quality protein crystals and for other molecular biology applications. Cholesterol 3-sulfate sodium salt activates multiple protein kinase C (PKC) iso-enzymes, especially the epsilon, eta and zeta isoforms.
