QUICK LINKS

Brefeldin A is a fungal metabolite that disrupts the structure and function of the Golgi apparatus. It induces the Golgi proteins to redistribute into the ER and blocks the secretion from the Golgi apparatus. Studies show that it blocks the GTP-dependent interaction of ARF with the Golgi membrane, thus inhibiting the assembly of coatomer onto the membrane. Research shows that Brefeldin A can induce apoptosis in Neuroendocrine tumor cells by activating caspase-3, and inhibits cell growth by targeting the cell cycle in prostate cancer cells. Brefeldin A is an inhibitor of ARF.
