2-Amino-6-methylheptane is an aliphatic secondary amine which has shown to inhibit leucine aminotransferase. It is used in the preparation of glycosyl β-amino acids with antitubercular activity. It has also been used as a building block for the synthesis of n-type photoconductor, N,N′-bis(1,5-dimethylhexyl)-3,4:9,10-perylenebis (dicarbox-imide).
