2,5-Pyridinedicarboxylic acid is a white crystalline solid. It is soluble in water and alcohol. Shown to be effective as a catalyst for the oxidation of hydrocarbons. It is used to prepare new 2,5-pyridinedicarboxylic acid derivatives as antiviral agents. Additionally, it can be used as a catalyst for the production of nitric acid from ammonia or picolinic acid.
