1,2,3,6,7,8-Hexahydropyrene (HHP) is a highly toxic polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon (PAH) that is prominently present in diesel exhaust. This compound has been extensively investigated in scientific research due to its potential for toxicity and carcinogenic effects. The potent carcinogenic and mutagenic properties of 1,2,3,6,7,8-Hexahydropyrene stem from its interaction with DNA, leading to genetic damage. Binding to DNA can induce mutations. Moreover, 1,2,3,6,7,8-Hexahydropyrene can incite oxidative stress and inflammation. Additionally, its interaction with cell membranes disrupts cellular signaling pathways, consequently impairing normal cellular functions.
