Naproxen sodium salt, a derivative of naproxen, functions by inhibiting the activity of cyclooxygenase (COX), an enzyme necessary for the biosynthesis of prostaglandins and thromboxanes from arachidonic acid. It reversibly binds to the active site of COX, preventing the conversion of arachidonic acid to prostaglandin H2. These molecules play key roles in inflammation and pain signaling pathways.
