QUICK LINKS

Phosphate Buffered Saline (PBS) is a widely utilized buffer solution in biochemical and cellular biology research, known for its ability to maintain the pH in a stable range. The 10X concentration of PBS, typically diluted to a working concentration of 1X, provides a stable ionic environment and osmolarity that closely approximates physiological conditions, facilitating the handling and manipulation of cells in vitro. PBS plays a critical role in molecular biology and immunology studies where maintaining cellular stability and function is crucial. In research, PBS is commonly used for cell washing procedures, helping to remove debris and residual media from cell cultures without disrupting the membrane integrity or physiological conditions that cells require. This is essential during steps such as cell fixation, where cells are treated with fixatives to preserve their structure for microscopy or other analytical techniques. Additionally, PBS is used as a diluent in the preparation of solutions used in experimental assays, ensuring that reaction components are at appropriate concentrations and that pH levels remain consistent throughout experimental procedures. Its buffering capabilities are essential in maintaining the pH stability necessary for enzyme reactions and protein interactions, which are often pH-sensitive.

Is this product sterile?

Asked by: ISLA SAS
Thank you for your question. When diluting to a 1X solution it is recommended to filter through a 0.22 µm filter into a sterile flask. When used in cell culture applications it can be sterilized by autoclaving (20 min, 121°C, liquid cycle)

Hi, my experiment needs 0.1M PBS solution, Is it possible to use this product to make 0.1M solution. If yes then please briefly explain me how?

Asked by: imran
Thank you for your inquiry. Our Phosphate Buffered Saline: 1 L of 10X makes 10 L of 1X PBS buffer with a phosphate buffer concentration of 10mM, 2.7mM potassium chloride, 137mM sodium chloride, and 1.76mM potassium phosphate when diluted. It is provided with a 0.1M phosphate buffer concentration, prior to dilution.
