Z-L-Phe-pNA is a chromogenic substrate used in a variety of laboratory experiments. It is primarily employed as a substrate in enzymatic assays to study the activity of enzymes such as proteases, peptidases, and esterases. These enzymes can cleave the Z-L-Phe-pNA substrate, releasing p-nitroaniline, which exhibits a yellow color. The color change is monitored spectrophotometrically to measure enzyme activity. This chemical is also used as a reagent for the synthesis of other compounds and as a ligand for various proteins.
