QUICK LINKS

Vitamin A is a group of unsaturated nutritional organic compounds, including retinol, retinal, retinoic acid, provitamin A carotenoids, and beta-carotene. The human immune system is unable to grow and develop without vitamin A. Vitamin A, in the form of retinal, combines with opsin to form rhodopsin which is vital for low-light and color vision. As retinoic acid, Vitamin A functions as a hormone-like growth factor that supports epithelial cells. Vitamin A also shows lipoperoxy radical scavenging activity, and has antioxidant and fluorescent properties.
