Vinyl-L-NIO Hydrochloride is a potent, selective inhibitor of NOS1(nNOS, Ki = 100 nM) over NOS2 (iNOS, Ki = 60 μM) and NOS3 (eNOS, Ki = 12 μM). In the presence of NADPH and O2, vinyl-L-NIO hydrochloride irreversibly inactivates NOS1 (kinact = 0.078 min−1 and Ki = 90 nM).
