Vinorelbine ditartrate is a selective mitotic microtubule antagonist that exhibits > 20 fold selectivity over axonal microtubules. By studying vinorelbine ditartrate′s effects on tubulin polymerization and microtubule formation, researchers can gain a deeper understanding of cell cycle regulation, particularly mitosis. By inducing mitotic blockade, vinorelbine ditartrate can trigger a cascade of cellular responses leading to programmed cell death. Investigating these pathways with vinorelbine ditartrate helps to clarify the role of specific genes and proteins in cell survival and death. This knowledge is for elucidating the fundamental processes that govern cell division and the maintenance of genomic stability. This compound may act to inhibit the proliferation of multiple human tumor cell lines (IC50 = 1.25 nM in HeLa cells). Its mechanism of action involves the inhibition of cell division.
