    SEE ALSO...

VILIP-1 Antibody (2F1-E3) is a mouse monoclonal IgG2a kappa light chain antibody that detects VILIP-1 protein of mouse, rat, and human origin by western blotting (WB), immunoprecipitation (IP), and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). Anti-VILIP-1 antibody (2F1-E3) is available as a non-conjugated format. VILIP-1 protein, also known as visinin-like protein 1, is encoded by the VSNL1 gene located on the short arm of chromosome 2 and is a member of the neuronal calcium sensor family, which is part of the larger calcium-binding protein superfamily. VILIP-1 contains four EF-hand motifs and a double-stranded RNA-binding domain, which are crucial for calcium signaling. VILIP-1 is predominantly expressed in the membrane, cytoplasm, and cytoskeleton of sympathetic and parasympathetic neurons throughout the brain, with notable exceptions in the caudate-putamen region. Expression levels significantly decline with age, which may have implications for neuronal function and health. VILIP-1 interacts with actin in the cytoskeleton, facilitating translocation to the membrane, and binds to the 3′-untranslated region of trkB double-stranded mRNA in a calcium-dependent manner, highlighting a role in modulating neuronal signaling pathways. VILIP-1 associates with G protein-receptor kinase 1, inhibiting membrane binding, which suggests a regulatory function in G-protein signaling cascades. Decreased levels of VILIP-1 have been observed in the brains of individuals with Alzheimer′s disease, indicating potential involvement in the pathophysiology of this condition.
