NOTE: The PVDF membrane has two distinct sides: a smooth side and a textured side. For proper transfer, ensure the material is transferred to the smooth side of the membrane.
Polyvinylidene Fluoride (PVDF) Transfer Membrane is a naturally hydrophobic, unsupported, high retention capacity matrix for protein and nucleic acid binding.
PVDF transfer membrane has high sensitivity and strong binding affinity with low backgrounds. Binding capacity is 125 µg/cm2.
PVDF transfer membrane has a powerful protein-to-membrane interface adsorption relative to nitrocellulose.
UltraCruz® Polyvinylidene Fluoride (PVDF) Membrane is unsupported and naturally hydrophobic with a high retention capacity matrix for protein and nucleic acid binding, preventing material from passing through the membrane during electrophoretic transfer. Hydrophobicity of PVDF membrane promotes strong binding affinity and high signal with low background. When destaining with high concentration of methanol, PVDF membrane will not shrink, degrade or distort. It's chemical resistance to a variety of organic and inorganic acids, durability and physical strength can withstand harsh reagents such as Western Blot stripping buffer solvent, which makes it ideal for reprobing and labeling additional proteins. PVDF Transfer Membrane is suitable for Western blots, immunoblotting, and solid phase assays.

Can UltraCruz PVDF used for Northern Blotting?
Asked by: zoey90
Thank you for your question. A nylon membrane with a positive charge is the most effective for use in northern blotting since the negatively charged nucleic acids have a high affinity for them. We recommend UltraCruz® Nylon Transfer Membranes sc-201701 or sc-201703 for Northern Blotting.

Hi, this is the first time we use this product from Santa Cruz, we had been using the nitrocellulose (sc-3724). Are there any differences in the haddling of the PVDF membrane other that the smooth/shiny side? Activation in methanol containing buffer?
Asked by: Emmanouella
Thank you for your inquiry and your interest in this product. For activation of UltraCruz® PVDF Transfer membrane : sc-3723 we recommend to incubate the membrane for 10 seconds in methanol, then 5 minutes in water, then at least 10 minutes in towbin buffer. Hello,
I notice the two sides of the membrane are different. One side is rough and the other side is smooth. Which side binds protein better?
Asked by: ZW23
Thank you for your question. When using our UltraCruz® PVDF Transfer membrane, the protein should transfer on to the “smooth/shiny” side of the membrane.
