QUICK LINKS

Tyvelose is the immunodominant portion of the major larval glycoprotein antigens of Trichinella spiralis, which play an important role in generating immunity against the intestinal stages of infection. Tyvelose is made up of three constituents: 3,6-dideoxy-D-glycero-hexose and two fatty acids. The chemical composition of Tyvelose has been determined through chemical synthesis and spectroscopic analysis. Additionally, it is used in the biosynthesis of the lipid A antigen present on gram-negative bacteria.
