Tyloxapol is a nonionic liquid polymer of the alkyl aryl polyether alcohol type. Tyloxapol is employed as a surfactant in bronchopulmonary studies of liquefaction and removal of mucupurulent secretions. It was synthesized in the 1960s and has been utilized in different scientific research applications. With a molecular weight of approximately 5,000 g/mol, it is a polymeric polyoxyethylene ether that exhibits a broad range of biological activities. In laboratory experiments, Tyloxapol has been studied for its effects on cell membranes, enzymes, and other biological molecules in vitro. Its versatility makes it useful for research purposes.
