QUICK LINKS

Tylosin is a macrolide antibiotic derived from various strains of Streptomyces bacteria. This versatile antibiotic is effective against both Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria, making it valuable for combating a range of bacterial infections. The mechanism of action of tylosin involves hindering bacterial growth by interfering with protein synthesis, an essential process for bacterial survival. By binding to the 50S ribosomal subunit of bacteria, tylosin prevents the formation of the initiation complex necessary for protein synthesis. Consequently, the bacteria are unable to generate vital proteins, leading to their demise. Tylosin exhibits a broad spectrum of biochemical and physiological effects. Its impact on bacterial growth is attributed to its ability to impede protein synthesis, thereby inhibiting essential bacterial functions. Moreover, tylosin enhances the permeability of the bacterial cell membrane, contributing to bacterial death. Notably, it has also demonstrated inhibitory effects on fungi and viruses.
