QUICK LINKS

Tulobuterol hydrochloride is a β2-adrenergic receptor agonist that functions by binding to and activating β2-adrenergic receptors on the smooth muscle cells of the airways. This activation leads to the stimulation of adenylate cyclase, which in turn increases the levels of cyclic adenosine monophosphate (cAMP) within the cells. Elevated cAMP levels then activate protein kinase A, which phosphorylates and activates myosin light chain kinase. This activation ultimately leads to the relaxation of the smooth muscle cells, resulting in bronchodilation. Tulobuterol hydrochloride inhibits the release of inflammatory mediators from mast cells and to modulate the function of airway epithelial cells. These combined effects contribute to its ability to alleviate airway constriction and improve airflow in experimental models.
