QUICK LINKS

Tris(2-chloropropyl) Phosphate is a chlorinated phosphate ester flame retardant used in rigid and flexible polyurethane foams. It is recommended as flame retardant for PU foams, PVC and adhesives. Tris(2-chloropropyl) phosphate, a well-known neurotoxin, has been associated with various detrimental health effects, such as reproductive and developmental toxicity, endocrine disruption, and cancer. Surprisingly, despite its toxic nature, Tris(2-chloropropyl) phosphate continues to be extensively utilized in consumer goods, including furniture, electronics, and various other products. The mechanism of action involves the inhibition of acetylcholinesterase, an enzyme responsible for breaking down the neurotransmitter acetylcholine. As a consequence, the accumulation of acetylcholine in the synapse occurs, leading to excessive stimulation of the nervous system.
