Triclabendazole is a veterinary anthelmintic agent primarily employed in the treatment and control of fascioliasis, a parasitic infection caused by liver flukes, most notably Fasciola hepatica and Fasciola gigantica. Its mode of action is distinguished by its ability to specifically target and inhibit the enzyme beta-tubulin, which is critical for microtubule formation in the cells of these parasites. By binding to beta-tubulin, Triclabendazole disrupts the parasite′s cellular structure and function, leading to impaired energy metabolism, reduced motility, and ultimately, the death of the parasite.
