Trandolaprilat Monohydrate is a compound that functions as an angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitor. It acts by inhibiting the conversion of angiotensin I to angiotensin II, a potent vasoconstrictor, thereby reducing the production of aldosterone and leading to vasodilation. Trandolaprilat Monohydrate binds to the active site of ACE, preventing the enzymatic cleavage of angiotensin I. At the molecular level, it exerts its action by forming a stable, non-covalent complex with the zinc ion in the active site of ACE, thereby blocking the catalytic activity of the enzyme. This inhibition of ACE activity results in decreased levels of angiotensin II, leading to vasodilation and reduced aldosterone secretion.
