Torin 1 is a potent and selective mTOR inhibitor (IC50 = 2 - 10 nM for mTORC1 and mTORC2) that displays 200-fold selectivity for mTOR over DNA-PK, ATM and hVps34. It induces autophagy in HeLa cells. Additionally, Torin 1 inhibits downstream effectors of mTOR in mice most effectively at a dose of 20 mg/kg. It is used in in vitro experiments to study the activity of protein kinases and their role in the regulation of various cellular processes. For example, it has been employed to investigate the regulation of cell cycle progression, apoptosis, cell migration, gene expression, and signal transduction pathways.
