Tin(IV) iodide is a substrate film for thermal expansion and can be used as a polarizer. Shown to have synergic effects when combined with compounds like polyvinyl chloride and perovskite. The chemical stability of Tin(IV) iodide varies depending on its environment, as it remains stable in the presence of hydrogen fluoride and phosphorus pentoxide but not with zirconium oxide or copper chloride. Tin(IV) Iodide has high values for thermodynamic data and x-ray crystal structures. As a Lewis acid, Tin(IV) iodide is able to promote the synthesis of tetraalkynylstannanes.
