Tilmicosin, a semi-synthetic macrolide antibiotic. Belonging to the macrolide family, which finds extensive use in veterinary medicine for treating bacterial infections. Renowned for its potency, tilmicosin exhibits broad-spectrum activity against both Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria. It also displays efficacy against mycoplasmas, chlamydia, and rickettsia. The mechanism of action of tilmicosin involves inhibiting protein synthesis within bacterial cells. This inhibition occurs through the binding of tilmicosin to the 50S subunit of the bacterial ribosome, the vital component responsible for protein synthesis. By binding to this subunit, tilmicosin prevents the formation of peptide bonds between amino acids, effectively impeding protein synthesis.
