Tetrakis(triphenylphosphine)palladium(0) is a high-yielding catalyst used in coupling reactions and reductive debromination of fused diporphyrins. It is also used in the synthesis of chlorins and porphodimethenes with alkyllithiums. It is particularly exploited in cross-coupling reactions, such as the Suzuki-Miyaura, Stille, and Heck reactions, among others. These reactions are for constructing the carbon skeletons of organic molecules, including agrochemicals and materials science precursors. By exchanging one or more triphenylphosphine ligands with other ligands, chemists can tailor the reactivity and selectivity of the palladium catalyst for specific reactions or substrates.
