QUICK LINKS

(−)-Terpinen-4-ol is a naturally derived organic compound, prevalent in essential oils of various botanicals like tea tree, nutmeg, cardamom, and coriander. It is a colorless liquid and is categorized as a monoterpene alcohol, due to its distinctive chemical structure. Its solubility is noted in organic solvents like ethanol and acetone, contrasting its insolubility in water. Known for its antibacterial properties, (−)-Terpinen-4-ol works by interacting with penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs), subsequently obstructing the proteins′ ability to bind to bacterial cell wall synthesis. This results in the inhibiting of cellular growth and induces cellular death.
