QUICK LINKS

Terbufos is a chemical that functions as an organophosphate insecticide and nematicide. It acts as an acetylcholinesterase inhibitor, disrupting the breakdown of the neurotransmitter acetylcholine at the synaptic cleft. This disruption leads to an accumulation of acetylcholine, resulting in overstimulation of cholinergic receptors and subsequent paralysis of the target pests. At the molecular level, terbufos binds irreversibly to the active site of acetylcholinesterase, inhibiting its enzymatic activity.
