Temocaprilat is a compound that functions as an angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitor. It acts by inhibiting the conversion of angiotensin I to angiotensin II, a potent vasoconstrictor, thereby reducing the production of angiotensin II. This leads to vasodilation and decreased aldosterone secretion, resulting in reduced blood pressure. At the molecular level, Temocaprilat binds to the active site of ACE, preventing the cleavage of angiotensin I and the subsequent formation of angiotensin II. By interfering with this enzymatic process, Temocaprilat disrupts the renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system, ultimately leading to its inhibitory effect on blood pressure. Temocaprilat′s mechanism of action may be useful for studying the physiological and pathophysiological roles of the renin-angiotensin system in experimental applications.
