Tecloftalam is characterized as a dicarboxylic acid monoamide, specifically the mono-(2,3-dichloroanilide) of tetrachlorophthalic acid. Tecloftalam is an agrochemical fungicide, and is used for the control of paddy rice bacterial leaf blight. It also belongs to the chemical classes of tetrachlorobenzene, dichlorobenzene, and benzanilide fungicide. It is believed that Tecloftalam acts by binding to certain receptors on the surface of cells, which in turn activates specific signaling pathways. A significant metabolic route identified for Tecloftalam in paddy soil involves reductive dechlorination of its tetrachlorophthalamic acid component, leading primarily to mono-dechlorinated products over time.
