T2R21 Antibody (D-8) is a mouse monoclonal IgM antibody that detects T2R21 protein of mouse, rat, and human origin by western blotting (WB), immunoprecipitation (IP), immunofluorescence (IF), and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). Anti-T2R21 antibody (D-8) is available as the non-conjugated form. T2R21, also known as Tas2r121 (taste receptor, type 2, member 121), mGR21, mT2r48, Tas2r13, or Tas2r21, is a 305 amino acid transmembrane protein that belongs to the G-protein coupled receptor T2R family. T2R21 plays a crucial role in the perception of bitter compounds, which is essential for detecting potentially harmful substances in food and the environment. T2R21 signals through phospholipase C beta 2 and the calcium-regulated cation channel TRPM5, functioning as a gustducin-coupled receptor primarily located in taste receptor cells of the oral cavity and gastrointestinal tract. The gene encoding T2R21 is mapped to mouse chromosome 6 G1, while its human homolog, T2R13, is a 303 amino acid protein expressed in specific subsets of taste receptor cells in the tongue and palate epithelium, found exclusively in gustducin-positive cells. T2R13 is located on human chromosome 12, which is associated with a variety of genetic disorders, including hypochondrogenesis and Noonan syndrome, highlighting T2R21′s importance in both taste perception and potential implications in health and disease.
