Surfactin is lipopeptide antibiotic. Powerful biosurfactant resulting in the lysis of erythrocytes and bacteria. Also a clotting inhibitor. It exhibits a diverse array of biological activities, encompassing antibacterial, antifungal, antiviral, and anti-inflammatory properties. It has been widely employed as a model compound in the examination of lipid-mediated effects on cell membranes and the impact of antibiotics on bacterial growth.
