The action of sulfosulfuron revolves around its ability to impede the activity of an enzyme called acetolactate synthase (ALS). This enzyme plays a pivotal role in synthesizing the amino acid valine, a component for the growth and development of plants. By exerting its inhibitory effect on ALS, sulfosulfuron effectively hinders the production of valine within the plant. As a result, the plant is deprived of this essential amino acid, ultimately leading to its demise. Through this targeted mechanism, sulfosulfuron disrupts the vital metabolic processes necessary for the survival of the plant.
