QUICK LINKS

Sulfometuron methyl is a systemic herbicide known for its selective action against a wide range of broadleaf weeds and grasses. Its mechanism of action primarily involves the inhibition of acetolactate synthase (ALS), an enzyme critical for the synthesis of branched-chain amino acids (valine, leucine, and isoleucine) in plants. By blocking this enzyme, sulfometuron methyl effectively halts the production of these essential amino acids, leading to the cessation of cell division and plant growth, eventually resulting in the death of the susceptible plant species.
