Sulfamethazine (SMT) is an antimicrobial agent belonging to the sulfonamide class. The mechanism of action of Sulfamethazine is believed to involve the inhibition of bacterial cell wall synthesis. It achieves this by effectively hindering the synthesis of peptidoglycan, a vital structural component of bacterial cell walls. Additionally, Sulfamethazine is capable of inhibiting the synthesis of lipopolysaccharide, another structural component of bacterial cell walls.
