QUICK LINKS

Succinylsulfathiazole is a sulfonamide antibiotic that inhibits the synthesis of folic acid in bacteria by acting as a competitive inhibitor of the enzyme dihydropteroate synthase. This disruption of folic acid production ultimately leads to the inhibition of bacterial growth and reproduction. By targeting the folic acid synthesis pathway, succinylsulfathiazole effectively disrupts the ability of bacteria to produce the necessary components for DNA and RNA synthesis. Succinylsulfathiazole has a broad spectrum of activity against both gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria.
